ASML donderdag gesloten op €24.68 -1%

RT $32.55 -1% = €24.76

( gem. laatste 3 maanden 2.6 miljoen stuks)

Middag

UMC: Capacity was sold out in Q2
Dylan McGrath

8/4/2010 2:41 AM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO—Taiwanese chip foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) Wednesday (Aug. 4) reported its capacity utilization rate was 100 percent in the second quarter and said the company logged record wafer shipments during the period.

UMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) reported sales for the second quarter of NT$29.75 billion ($926 million), up 11 percent compared to the first quarter and up 32 percent compared to the second quarter of 2009. The company said its second quarter net income was NT$5.27 billion ($164 million), up 51 percent sequentially and up 241 percent year-to-year.

"Capacity utilization for the second quarter of 2010 was full, with shipments growing to a record 1,156 thousand 8-inch equivalent wafers," said Shih-Wei Sun, CEO of UMC, in a statement. Sun said revenue for the quarter exceeded expectations, crediting an accelerated ramp-up of 65-nm capacity and a favorable product mix.

Revenue from 65-nm and below products grew more than 50 percent compared to the previous quarter, with 40-nm output accounting for 3 percent of sales, Sun said.

"Demand is expected to remain robust for advanced processes, driven by new applications and technology migration," Sun said. "Therefore, we are optimistic about third-quarter growth, anticipate rising revenues and profit and maintain a healthy outlook for mid to long-term demand."

UMC plans to raise its 2010 capital expenditure outlay to $1.8 billion, Sun said. The company had previously said it expected to spend between $1.2 billion and $1.5 billion on capital expenditures this year.

The percentage of UMC's second quarter revenue derived from the communications market decreased to 54 percent from 59 percent in the previous quarter and 62 percent in the year-ago quarter. Meanwhile, the consumer market accounted for 31 percent of second quarter revenue, up from 26 percent in the previous quarter and 21 percent in the year-ago quarter.

UMC's capacity utilization rate increased to 100 percent in the second quarter from 88 percent in the previous quarter and 79 percent in the year-ago quarter. During late 2008 and early 2009, capacity utilization rates at UMC and other foundries declined to historical lows amid the steep semiconductor industry downturn.

UMC said it has earmarked 87 percent of its 2010 capital expenditures for 300-mm manufacturing lines, with 13 percent going to 200-mm lines.

ASML $32.63

SIA: Chip sales up 7% sequentially in Q2Dylan McGrath

8/2/2010 3:38 PM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO—Second quarter semiconductor sales amounted to $74.8 billion, up 7.1 percent from $69.9 billion in the first quarter, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) trade group.

June chip sales amounted to $24.9 billion, up less than one percent from $24.8 billion, the SIA said Monday (Aug. 2).

"Sales in the first half of 2010 were exceptionally robust, driven by strong demand from a broad range of end markets," said SIA President Brian Toohey, in a statement.

Chip sales of $144.6 billion for the first half of the year were up more than 50 percent from $96.1 billion in the first half of 2009, Toohey said.

"We expect that sequential growth rates will moderate in the coming months, with the result that year-on-year growth for the industry will be in line with our mid-year forecast of 28.4 percent," Toohey said.

On Monday, market research firm iSuppli Corp. increased its forecast for the semiconductor market this year, saying it now expects revenue for the industry to be up 35 percent from 2009. Other market research firms, including VLSI Research Inc. and IC Insights Inc., have also increased their chip forecasts for the year in recent days.

Het lijkt me in iedergeval positief dat ASML boven de €25,- zijn slotkoers had.
Gaat ASML door die weerstand zone dan moet je niet gek opkijken dat de koers heel snel in de €26,- staat.
