Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Royal Dutch Shell Plc, which refines about 15 percent of Argentina’s fuel, is waging a court battle against a government ban that prevents fuel producers from increasing prices in the South American country.

Shell and the Argentine government have battled over fuel prices in the last few years. In 2005, then-President Nestor Kirchner asked consumers to boycott Shell for raising prices. In 2007, the government closed a Shell refinery because of alleged environmental concerns. A year later, the government banned Shell from exporting refined fuel. The ban lasted about a month, until Shell reduced its fuel prices.

Shell, Europe’s largest oil company, is one of Argentina’s four biggest gasoline station operators. The others are Spain’s Repsol YPF SA, Exxon Mobil Corp., the world’s largest oil company, and Oil Combustibles SA, which bought Petroleos Brasilero SA’s gasoline stations earlier this year.

Shell owns a refinery in Argentina with the capacity to process about 113,000 barrels a day of diesel and naphtha fuels.

After the battle is een tijdschrift dat ieder kwartaal verscheen.

Het boek waar de data uitgehaald zijn heet "The battle of Britain then and now" (1980, 720 blz.), edited by Winston G. Ramsey, uitgegeven door het tijdschrift "After the battle".

Heb het boek een paar jaar terug gekocht op e-bay, werd stevig op geboden, net als op andere boeken uitgegeven door "After the battle" in de serie then and now (o.a. Duinkerken).

Titel van de BBC is klein foutje, begrijpelijk, maar slordig. Mooi overzicht, goede foto's.

Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- GDF Suez SA and infrastructure investment units of Deutsche Bank AG, AXA SA and Prudential Plc made initial bids for Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell Plc natural-gas storage facilities in Germany, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.

Exxon and Shell may enter negotiations with the four bidders after they made indicative offers at the end of July, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the process is private. The total value of the deal may exceed 1 billion euros ($1.29 billion), said one of the people.

Exxon, Shell and other oil companies are selling pipelines, refineries and filling stations, as they boost spending on more profitable oil and gas production. Shell said today that it agreed to sell its Heide refinery in Germany to U.K. private equity firm Klesch & Co., and Exxon sold a stake in a Norwegian pipeline network in April.

Shell and Exxon hold equal stakes in the Hanover, Germany- based gas-storage company, which operates the 750-million cubic meter Uelsen facility, the 129-million cubic meter Harsefeld site and a larger facility in Doettlingen, according to BEB’s website. Most gas storage in Germany is in the north of the country, where rock formations are suited to holding the fuel.

Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Royal Dutch Shell Plc agreed to sell its 90,000 barrel-a-day Heide refinery in Germany to private investor Klesch & Co. Ltd. as Europe’s largest oil company reviews its global crude processing business.

Shell is reviewing its refineries as it seeks to reduce costs and spending after the global recession curbed demand for fuels such as diesel. Shell put Heide and neighboring Hamburg- Harburg up for sale last year.

The Heide sale is subject to regulatory approval and includes associated local infrastructure and businesses in Germany, The Hague-based Shell said today. There was no price provided and company spokesman Kim Blomley declined to comment.

Shell has said it plans to divide the remaining $6 billion in divestments for the coming 18 months among the company’s divisions.

As piper to a British army unit, Bill Millin was ordered to play "Blue Bonnets Over the Border" on his bagpipes as his brigade waded ashore on Sword Beach immediately behind the 3rd Division on the morning of D-Day, June 6, 1944, and thereafter battled its way inland.

Mr. Millin, who died Wednesday at age 87, continued to play Highland tunes as the brigade advanced inland under intense German infantry and sniper fire through the villages of Ouistreham and then Benouville en route to their objective.

This was the relief of the airborne troops at the Pegasus bridge over the Caen Canal and the Ranville bridge over the River Orne. These had been captured in a remarkable glider-borne assault in the first half hour of D-Day.

Over the past few decades Mr. Millin, who was born in Glasgow, had often returned to France to pay respect to his fallen comrades. French fundraisers have been trying to raise $125,000 to erect a statue of him at Sword Beach. His bagpipes, which were badly damaged by shrapnel a few days after D-Day were given a permanent home in the National War Museum of Scotland in 2001.
