Logica haalt twee nieuwe klanten binnen
LONDEN (AFN) - Automatiseerder Logica heeft contracten getekend met twee nieuwe klanten voor zijn CLS Manager solution (LCM). Dat maakte Logica dinsdag bekend.
Logica maakte niet bekend wie de nieuwe klanten zijn en hoeveel geld met de contracten is gemoeid. LCM automatiseert handelstransacties via het CLS-systeem op de geldmarkt. LCM wordt nu door veertien banken gebruikt, waaronder Credit Suisse en Nomura. Zij zijn samen goed voor bijna 45 procent van het dagelijkse volume op het CLS-systeem.

Logica to provide IT services to Stora Enso

Logica, a leading business and technology service company, today announced a contract win with Stora Enso, a global paper, packaging and wood products company, for the provision of IT infrastructure services. Through the three-year contract, which begins in January 2011, Logica will provide IT infrastructure services to all Stora Enso’s production facilities in Finland. Under the terms of the agreement employees currently working at Stora Enso will transfer to Logica.
Logica will provide IT services to approximately 8,000 users and 6,000 workstations. The agreement includes IT services to end users, server and workstation management, and in addition network and database management and development. The contract has the option of a two-year extension.

The new supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) platform, to be supplied and migrated by Logica, will see the the tram company implement 66 remote telemetry units along existing field wiring and allow technicians to remotely view and manipulate the network, manage work permits and control power supply for its vehicle fleet.
Yarra Trams is also expected to upgrade its audio video monitoring (AVM) system over the next three years, replacing the current, five-year-old video wall, enabling the company to visualise potential disruptions to the network and correlate tram movements with substation loads. The wall is fed by traffic cameras from VicRoads and is used in association with Victoria Police to control traffic during peak periods and special events.
“Improved access to a wider range of data will enable a proactive and faster response to potential problems in our power network, resulting in greater business efficiency. It will bring us close to real-time management, as well as providing greater control over our carbon emissions,” Yarra Trams projects director, Sozos Pavli said in a statement.
“This is a technically challenging project and we required a reliable partner that will upgrade our control centre with minimum disruption, with the expertise to integrate new technology with our existing business systems,” Pavli said.
The system will monitor the activity of the company’s fleet of 486 trams, which in total cover 31,000 services per week. The track infrastructure spans 250 kilometres.
Logica has been involved in developing and planning the SCADA implementation for the past year, with consultants from the company working with Yarra Trams as early as July last year. However, the private tram company has been on the lookout to replace its previous system for at least four years with initial tenders for the project stretching back to 2006.
The new SCADA system is expected to last for the next decade.

Metropolitan Police Authority extends Logica partnership

Logica, a business and technology service company, has been awarded an extension by the Metropolitan Police Authority and Metropolitan Police Service to its pay and pensions outsourcing contract. MPS awarded Logica the £10 million contract extension covering the three-year period, 2013-2016, renewing the existing contract between the two organisations, signed in 2005.
Logica already provides a fully-integrated, managed payroll and pensions administration service for the 58,000 police officers and staff of MPS. This contract extension will also see Logica offer the opportunity for MPS to benefit from introduction of organisation-wide electronic payslips, overtime and expenses which it has not had to date. The new contract maintains the focus on providing quality services at good value for money. The pensions administration service will continue to be managed through Logica’s partner Xafinity Paymaster.
Logica will also provide an even more resilient and flexible solution providing additional benefits to MPS employees through greater use of self-service IT systems. Additionally, Logica's technology and payroll solutions, which were developed specifically for the public sector, have been tailored to meet the specific needs of Logica’s Police User Group.

Softwaresector kent 192.000 arbeidsplaatsen
De Nederlandse softwaresector zorgt voor 192.000 arbeidsplaatsen. Daarnaast draagt deze sector jaarlijks voor 17,3 miljard bij aan de Nederlandse economie. Dat zijn twee van de conclusies uit het rapport 'De softwaresector in Nederland' dat in opdracht van branchevereniging ICT~Office werd uitgevoerd. Deze branchevereniging vertegenwoordigt ongeveer vijfhonderd Nederlandse ict-bedrijven.
ICT~Office grijpt het rapport aan om het nieuwe kabinet alvast aan te spreken op de 'potentie van de softwaresector'. 'We hebben in Nederland nog volop kansen om softwarebedrijven te laten uitgroeien tot motor van de economie. Die kansen mogen we niet onbenut laten. Het is belangrijk dat er in Nederland een economische omgeving bestaat waarin innovatieve softwarebedrijven kunnen ontstaan en groeien', zo zegt algemeen directeur ICT~Office Sylvia Roelofs.
De brancheorganisatie wijst erop dat de softwaresector nog vrij jong is en in 25 jaar tijd is uitgegroeid tot een belangrijke economische sector. 'De overheid kan als klant die ontwikkeling bevorderen door ook oog te hebben voor de producten van kleine innovatieve softwarebedrijven, als koper bij aanbestedingen. Als beleidmaker kan de overheid de ontwikkeling van de softwaresector bevorderen door samen met de sector standaarden te ontwikkelen', aldus Roelofs.
